This is a test for the AFFF fire suppressant system in the new C-130 hanger that is almost complete; hopefully it will never have to be used again. If you look closely on the floor, you will see an outline of an air plane, the test has to have 90% of the aircraft covered within the first 60 seconds or it will fail. The posts in the center of outline have tape 1 meter off the floor; the foam must also be above the tape within 4 minutes to pass.
This is after the first 20 seconds of the test; the foam doesn’t even start falling for 15 seconds.
The test after 35 seconds
After they opened the hanger doors they started the pumps up again to clean the pipes, I jumped into the front end of it for the photo op. Many engineers will go there life without experiencing this test, so it was quite a thrill to be a part of it. To give you an idea of how large this place is, when Obama came, there were over 2000 soldiers in this bay and there was still room for more.
